The Wyoming Department of Corrections says a 71-year-old inmate serving a 10-and-a-half to 12 year sentence for second-degree sexual abuse of a minor has died from a long-term illness.

The agency says Carl M. Stewart, Jr. died Wednesday at the Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins.

Stewart was serving the second of three consecutive sentences. He had previously served a nine to 10 year sentence for third-degree sexual assault and was facing an additional nine to 10 year sentence for third-degree sexual abuse of a minor.

He was sentenced in June 2011 by Freemont County District Court Judge Norman E. Young.
