The Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce announced Friday that they've chosen Charter Communications to design, deploy and operate the recently announced free public Wi-Fi project at the Cheyenne Depot.

"Charter was the clear choice for this project based on their local support and operations expertise combined with their strong desire to partner on a project that will have a positive impact on the community," said Robert Sloan, Principal Program Manager for Broadband Data Center Community Development at Microsoft.

In January, Microsoft awarded a $150,000 strategic grant to the Chamber Foundation to construct a network anyone on the plaza and within the Depot could use.

"Charter is proud to partner with the Greater Cheyenne Chamber of Commerce to provide superior broadband delivered by our robust Spectrum Wi-Fi network to visitors at the Cheyenne Depot Plaza and Museum,” said Todd Baxter, Regional Vice President of State Government Affairs for Charter.

"With farmer's markets and those types of activities down in that area, it will help get some commerce capabilities for merchants that want to do business in that area, even temporarily, that don't have that capability today," said Sloan.

"And with the growth of the splash pad, there'll be more of a community center with the Depot Plaza," he added.

The installation is expected to be completed in July.
