A 27-year-old Cheyenne man is behind bars after allegedly putting a police officer in a headlock.

Officer Kevin Malatesta says the officer was responding to a suspicious circumstances call in the 900 block of E. Carlson Street around 6:45 p.m. last (Wednesday) night, when Sean Archer exited a car drinking a beer.

"The officer informed him he couldn't be doing that, (but Archer) basically shrugged off the officer and tried walking away," said Malatesta.

"The officer attempted to detain Archer and Archer grabbed the officer's arm and then ended up putting the officer into a headlock," he added. "Fortunately, the officer was able to hit the emergency button on his radio and summon another officer for help."

The two officers were able to subdue Archer, who was arrested on suspicion of assault on a peace officer.

Archer is currently being held in the Laramie County jail awaiting formal charges.
