Cheyenne Man Arrested In Shooting Incident

A 44-year-old Cheyenne man was arrested early Thursday after allegedly shooting another man during a dispute.

According to Cheyenne Police Department spokesman Kevin Malatesta, police were called to 209 W. Third Ave. at around 3:13 a.m. on December 24 on a report of a disturbance with shots fired.

Malatesta says police found out 44-year-old Shawn Svare of Cheyenne had gotten into a fight with 38-year-old Kevin Smith, also of Cheyenne. Malatesta says further investigation showed Smith had allegedly punched Svare, who shot Smith with a handgun.

Malatesta says Smith was taken to Cheyenne Regional Medical Center for treatment, while Svare was arrested for aggravated assault.

The case is still under investigation by the Cheyenne Police Department.
