Cheyenne's Polar Plunge began as a benefit for Technical Sergeant Mathew Schwartz who gave his life serving his country. The original benefit was for his family.

Today the fun and fundraising continues to raise money for those in his line of work.

Sargent Schwartz worked as an EOD (Explosive Ordnance Disposal) technician. He died in the line of duty in Afghanistan.

Each year on the last Saturday in January, a funding raising breakfast is served at the Masonic Lodge in downtown Cheyenne. Later that afternoon a lunch is served in the Kiwanis Community House at Lions Park. Then, it is out back and on to the ice where a hole has been cut for the plunge.

Each polar plunger pays for the privilege. All proceeds go to the Mathew Schwartz Foundation to help those who have been injured in his profession.
