A long-blighted building in downtown Cheyenne may soon house the city's municipal court.

The Municipal Court Site Selection Committee on Wednesday recommended the Carey Building -- commonly referred to as the Z's Building -- as the preferred location for the new courthouse.

The committee also considered the Hynds Building, the Mayflower Building and a vacant lot on W. 18th Street between Bent Avenue and O'Neil Avenue.

"I'm pleased with the process so far, and look forward to consideration by the full council," said Mayor Marian Orr.

"We have the opportunity to bring life to a long-blighted corner of our downtown, while providing proper space and needs for our municipal court well into the future," Orr added.

The committee's findings will be presented to the City Council during a work session on Jan. 29.
