Broncos Started Without Cheerleaders

The Broncos franchise was born in 1960, but the first cheerleaders didn't come along until 1971. It's probably a good thing there were no cheerleaders during the first 10 years of the Broncos' existence because there really wasn't much to cheer about. The team's first winning season didn't happen until 1973.

The Bronco Belles debuted in 1971 and then became the Pony Express in 1977. The group disbanded in 1985, but was brought back to stay in 1993. The Denver Broncos Cheerleaders have been a part of the game-day experience in Denver ever since.

What Does It Take To Be A Broncos Cheerleader?

To be a Denver Broncos cheerleader, you have to go through an audition process that takes place each spring. The auditions primarily focus on dancing ability, but appearance is also taken into consideration as well as personal accomplishments and community involvement.

In addition to cheering during each Broncos home game, personal appearances are a big part of being a Denver Broncos cheerleader. The ladies have been involved with many charitable events as well as touring military bases overseas.

How Much Does It Cost To Host the Cheerleaders?

The Denver Broncos cheerleaders make personal appearances, but, hosting cheerleaders at a private event definitely comes with a hefty price tag. According to DenverBroncos.com, you can get two cheerleaders for one hour at a cost of $1200. Five cheerleaders for one hour will cost about $2,250, and five cheerleaders for two hours will run about $3500.

Not Every NFL Team Has Cheerleaders

Cheerleading has been a part of the NFL game day experience since 1954 when the Baltimore Colts introduced the first cheerleading squad as part of Baltimore's Marching Colts.  Did you know every team in the NFL does not have cheerleaders?

It's true. No less than 7 NFL teams do not have a cheerleading squad including Buffalo, Chicago, Cleveland, Green Bay, New York Giants, Pittsburgh, and the L.A. Chargers.
