Dontae Crow Plays Key Role in Wyoming Spring Game [VIDEO]
Sophomore wide receiver Dontae Crow showed off his play-making ability in the Spring Game for the Wyoming Cowboys.
The Wyoming native had a small role last season but is hoping for more this fall.
Last Saturday, he made two big catches. One was an over-the-shoulder grab with a defender right on him for a 37-yard completion. The other was a key touchdown late.
After the game, Crow discussed his performance, his two big receptions, the QBs and more.
Crow finished with three catches for 85 yards, tops in the game, and that score. His 38-yard TD catch with 1:45 left accounted for the only score in the game by the Brown team. After a two-point pass, they led 8-7. Crow also added one rush for seven yards and did field a couple of punt returns, but those were whistled dead right away, with no ability to return them for yardage.
Head coach Craig Bohl remarked that this was a good opportunity for the young guys (like Crow) to gain more experience.
Crow was born in Laramie, but grew up in Sheridan and was an All-State performer for the state champion Broncs in 2015. After a redshirt year in 2016, he was called upon in limited duty last season. Crow played in five games and finished with one catch for five yards. He also had one punt return for eight yards.
The Cowboys had four other receivers with at least one reception in the spring game. Junior Austin Conway led the way with six catches, while junior Milo Hall, who switched from running back this spring, had three receptions.
Four Wyoming receiver missed all or part of the spring due to injury. They were junior’s C.J. Johnson and John Okwoli, plus sophomores Jared Scott and Avante’ Cox. The Cowboys are hoping to have them back to full health in the fall. Johnson is the one question mark coming off a serious knee injury suffered in the bowl game last December.
