Wide Receiver Alex Brown Returning for ‘One Last Ride’ in Laramie
LARAMIE -- Alex Brown is back.
Despite being announced during Wyoming's senior day festivities, the junior will return to Laramie for a sixth season, bolstering a wide receiver group that has been depleted because of graduation.
"Due to recent coaching changes and, after long and thought out conversations with the people in my corner, and a lot of prayer, I have decided it's best for my athletic career to return for my final year of eligibility with business left unfinished," Brown penned Saturday on social media. "... One last ride."
Brown, a 6-foot-4, 201-pound Spring, Texas native, had his best statistical season in 2023, hauling in eight catches for 106 yards. It was the first time in his Cowboy career Brown eclipsed the 100-yard mark through the air.
The former three-star recruit out of Klein High School has one touchdown grab during his time at Wyoming.
It was a big one.
With 10:47 left in regulation, Brown caught a perfectly placed 32-yard strike off the right arm of Jayden Clemons. He landed in the end zone to give the Cowboys a 14-13 lead over rival Colorado State in the 2022 edition of the Border War. That score would stand, and Wyoming waltzed out of Canvas Stadium with its sixth victory in the series over the last seven meetings.

"It was kind of like a fever dream, to be honest," Brown said last August, recalling his touchdown, which will go down forever in series lore. "I just turned 21 a couple hours later and it was the first game my parents came to all year. It was the first game my sister had seen since, like, 2020, or something like that. So, it was kind of crazy. Honestly, it was kind of a weird feeling after the game because I didn't want it to be all about me. It was very much a fever dream for me."
Brown has 17 career catches to go along with 208 yards receiving at Wyoming.
"Laramie, Wyoming has been a place I have been grateful to call home for the last five years," Brown's letter continued on Saturday. "I am eternally grateful for the relationships and experiences that I have come across in my time here. The city has been nothing but welcoming to me and made my time here well worth it. I came here as a 17-year-old kid with no idea of what to do.
"I've grown up here and have made memories that will last me countless lifetimes."
Brown is not the only Cowboy returning for his final season of eligibility. Linebacker Shae Suiaunoa also announced Jan. 4 on social media he will be back in a Wyoming uniform in the fall.
Brown will lead a receivers room that will be without graduates Wyatt Wieland, Gunner Gentry, Ayir Asante and Ryan Marquez.
Devin Boddie Jr., Will Pelissier, Jaylen Sargent, Caleb Merritt, Bricen Brantley, Charlie Coenen, Caleb Cooley, Kayden LaFramboise and Justin Stevenson are all, as of now, expected to return. True freshmen Chris Durr Jr., Tyler Nystrom and Trey Olsen will also be added to the roster.
