Wyoming Cowgirls Host Aggies Wednesday Night

LARAMIE -- The Wyoming Cowgirl basketball team continues its two-game stretch at home as the Cowgirls host Utah State Wednesday night at 6:30.
Wednesday’s game will be broadcast live on the Mountain West Network and can be heard across the Cowgirl Radio Network with David Settle on the call.
ABOUT THE COWGIRLS
Wyoming (13-8, 8-2 MW) is coming off a hard-fought 59-52 victory Saturday over Nevada in Laramie. The Cowgirl bench accounted for 20 points and was the difference in the win as multiple role players provided a spark for Wyoming.
Maren McKenna and Marta Savic led the reserves with eight and six points, respectively. Ola Ustowska made the Cowgirls’ lone 3-pointer in the win and had a team-high three assists.
Allyson Fertig and Malene Pedersen finished the game in double figures with 12 and 10 points, respectively.
In 10 conference games this season, Fertig paces Wyoming with 13.6 points and 8.4 rebounds per game on 65.6-percent shooting from the field. Three other Cowgirls are averaging in double digits in Mountain West action thus far. Emily Mellema is averaging 10.5 points per game and has a team-leading 11 steals and is second on the squad with 25 assists.
Pedersen is at 10.1 a game while Tess Barnes is averaging an even 10 points and has a team-leading 22 made 3-pointers. Ustowska leads the Cowgirls, averaging 3.4 assists per game.
The Cowgirls are in search of their sixth win at home during conference action and improving to 9-2 overall in the Arena-Auditorium this season.
SCOUTING UTAH STATE
Utah State is led by one of the top scorers in the league in Cheyenne Stubbs, who ranks third overall in scoring at 16.2 points per game and fourth during conference games with 17.9 points per. Stubbs leads the Aggies with 38 3-pointers while shooting 35-percent from deep. Stubbs also has a team-high 37 steals, 47 assists (2.2 APG) and four rebounds per game.
Stubbs is the only Aggie averaging double figures in scoring as Skye Miller and Ivory Finley rank second and third on the team averaging seven and 6.4 points per game, respectively.
The Aggies average 55.7 points per game and allow 70.6 a contest. USU is shooting 38-percent overall from the floor and 26.7-percent from 3-point range.
Utah State opponents are shooting just over 41-percent from the field and 32-percent from beyond-the-arc. The Aggies are being out-rebounded by over 3.5 boards per contest and have committed six more turnovers per game than foes this season. USU is 2-8 on the road in 2023-24.
SERIES HISTORY AGAINST UTAH STATE
Wyoming is 31-10 all-time against the Aggies and have posted a 15-4 mark at home in the series. UW has won eight straight at home with an average margin of victory of 23.4 points over those eight contests.
The Cowgirls have won 11-of-12 of late in the series, dating back to the 2018-19 season. In four career games against Utah State, Fertig is averaging 18 points, 10.5 rebounds and two blocks per game on nearly 76-percent shooting (28-37) from the floor.
