Casper, Wyoming’s One Of The Top 5 Safest Cities
A friend just returned from a trip to Washington, D.C., and mentioned that the city was loud, dirty, and, from what I determined, not the safest.
That's how I feel every time I go to Denver: too many people, too many cars on the road, too many homeless, and too much crime. When I drive over the Wyoming/ Colorado state line coming back home, there's always a huge sigh of relief.
Once you cross that line, you're returning to a state with the #2 and #55 safest cities in the United States.
Casper ranked #2, and Cheyenne is #55 on WalletHub's 2024 Safest Cities in America survey.
That's not a shocker to me. I've rarely ever felt unsafe here. The crime rate is way lower than in most cities you may travel to. Wyomingites respect our neighbors, and people are generally kind outside of a few bad apples.
There are quite a few factors that place Casper near the top.
- Lowest pedestrian fatality rate
- 32nd lowest aggravated assault rate
- 2nd safest city for walking alone at night
- 4th safest for walking alone during the day
- 42nd lowest murder rate
- low risk of several types of natural disasters
- 6th lowest for hail
- 20th lowest for flooding
- 24th lowest for tornadoes
- 32nd lowest risk of earthquakes (even with Yellowstone nearby)
- fewest identity theft complaints
- 5th lowest percentage of uninsured drivers
You can see where other cities in the U.S. rank on this interactive map.
Another significant factor that put Casper near the top is our incredible first responders. Thanks for keeping us a safe city!
