If it were a competition in the lower 48 states, Colorado would be the winner. Hands down, no argument or discrepancies. They have 64, before Wyoming even has 1. Wyoming's first one is Encampment, followed by Elk Mountain, Pinedale, Laramie, Riverside, and Superior.

To be fair, Wyoming does have the second-highest average elevation in the country at 6,700 ft, but Colorado is really the heart of the Rocky Mountains, with an average elevation of 6,900 ft, with over 54 peaks of 14,000 ft+
Here in Wyoming, you won't find many towns or cities in the 3,000 ft range; actually, there are only about 10. There are 33 in the 4,000 ft range, 20 in the 5,000 ft range, 29 in the 6,000 ft range, and 6 over 7,000.
