There's a chance to find gold in South Pass City during Gold Rush Days.

The history of the, now empty, town is just about as rich as the ground that it sits on once was. Even though it's not the booming gold mining town it once was, there's still buildings standing and items leftover from the towns past.

I've always thought it would be cool to see what it was like to have been a gold miner from the late 1800's & early 1900's this weekend.

The conditions we live in today aren't quite as rough as they were back then, but if you'd like to get an idea of how time was spent you can.

During Gold Rush Days, the town comes back to life and offers an experience for the entire family. Not only can you actually pan for gold, but you can see how the gold mine works.

Not only will you get to explore, but the weekend is full of other family fun events too. There's an old-time base ball tournament.

Try your hand at faro, roulette and poker in the card room. There's also a Friends of South Pass bake sale both days and you can kick back with a cold sarsaparilla. Plus, you're kids aren't going to know it's going to be quite the learning experience.

South Pass City is owned by the State of Wyoming and is maintained by the Wyoming State Parks. Other than 2020, the Gold Rush Days has been happening every year since 2001.

Here's a list of things going on at Gold Rush Days
