“Cheers to 100 Years” for UW Homecoming
Laramie has 100 years' worth of Homecoming to celebrate this fall, as the University of Wyoming celebrates a century of celebrations. “Cheers to 100” years is the Homecoming theme this year, and UW has released the schedule of events for Sept. 25-30.
The parade on Saturday, Sept. 30 will begin at 9:30 a.m. at the corner of 15th and Grand Avenue. It will travel west on Grand to Second Street, then north on Second to Ivinson Ave, and then east on Ivinson, ending on 9th.
Before the parade is Cowboy Coffee at 7 a.m. at the new UW Ivinson parking garage, located between 10th and 11th Streets on Ivinson Avenue. Complimentary Homecoming mugs will be handed out at Cowboy Coffee, and breakfast options will be available while they last.
Other homecoming events include the Tribute to Steamboat Thursday evening on Sept. 28 at 5 p.m. The second annual tribute includes a “Showdeo,” at 6 p.m., which features traditional rodeo events, some less-traditional events like the wheelbarrow race and scramble, and swing dancing with the UW Country Swing Club. The Tribute will be held at the Hansen Arena, at 306 Hwy 230.
New this year is the Legacy Lunch, celebrating families who have made UW a tradition. Current members and their families are invited, as well as 1973 UW graduates and 50th Club members. The Lunch will be in the Union Ballroom Friday, Sept. 25 from 11:30 a.m. - 1 p.m. Registration is required.
Homecoming Happy Hour will be hosted by Bond’s Brewing on Friday as well, from 3-11 p.m. at the Downtown Laramie Hollyhock Commons, with live music starting at 6 p.m.
Throughout Homecoming Week, the Golden Boot Competition will be happening, where teams and groups can participate in a variety of ways to earn Golden Boot bragging rights points and other awards.
The Cowboys will face off against the New Mexico Lobos Saturday afternoon, at 2 p.m. The Pepsi Pregame Zone in the Indoor Practice Facility will open at 11 a.m.
