A six-rotation volleyball player and a standout football player on a No. 1 ranked team earned the nod as the WyoPreps Athletes of the Week. These two were the winners in the ninth week of the fall prep sports season for 2024-25. Kenzie Evans of Little Snake River and Lingle-Fort Laramie’s Cooper Smith were chosen for the honor. Evans led the top-ranked Rattlers to two conference road wins. Smith had a huge defensive game and opened some holes along the offensive line for the victorious Doggers.

Evans is a key piece in Little Snake River’s big 2024 season. She helped the Rattlers to a huge road win at No. 2 Cokeville in four sets, something that is not easy to do, beat the Panthers on their court. LSR picked up a second road win with a three-set sweep at Farson-Eden the next day to stay undefeated in conference action. The Rattlers are 24-3 on the season and 7-0 in the league. Evans recorded 42 kills and had a .362 hitting percentage. She added 34 digs, three total blocks, two aces, and two assists.

WyoPreps caught up with Kenzie to discuss her performance last week. She discussed the big road swing, how the team played, how she played, what’s been the key to their good season up to this point, areas for improvement, and more.

Boys Winner

Smith helped the top-ranked Doggers win at No. 4 Southeast last Thursday, 55-13. He had 18 tackles in the game, which included nine solo stops. Smith had three tackles for loss and two sacks. On offense at the guard position, he helped pave the way for Lingle’s rushing attack that finished with 363 yards. The Doggers improved to 6-0 this season and 4-0 in the 1A 9-man East Conference.

WyoPreps spoke with Smith about the big road win, his efforts on defense, and along the offensive line, how the Doggers are playing overall, his focus on both sides of the ball, and more.
