The Cheyenne Central girls basketball team went 3-0 in their own James Johnson Tournament over the weekend with wins over Kelly Walsh, Evanston, and Rock Springs.  The Tribe is 8-2 overall and they have a pair of outstanding players in Karson Tempel and Izzy Kelly. Tempel has been averaging 17 points per game and threw in 15 in their victory over Rock Springs on Saturday, Tempel is also the reigning 4A triple jump state champion in track and field and an all-conference selection in basketball last season.

Izzy Kelly led Central in scoring against Rock Springs with 18 points and she has been averaging a dozen per game. This is a 1-2 punch that can make life difficult for opponents. The Tribe would also want to return to the 4A State Tournament which they missed last season for the first time since 2016.  Central hasn't won a state championship since 2008 but they certainly will be contenders this season.

We talked with Tempel and Kelly after their 51-32 win over Rock Springs and it's one step at a time from here on out.
