Yesterday I had an interesting conversation with a gentleman who is putting on a formal event here in Wyoming.

I asked if the dress was formal, or Wyoming formal.

He rolled his eyes up in his head and said, "Well, I guess in Wyoming we know what formal looks like."

It is true that in the most formal events here in Wyoming I still see people wearing blue jeans- but only the nice blue jeans!

What goes into a "Wyoming formal" outfit?

For men in Wyoming, formal typically looks something like this:

  • Their best cowboy boots
  • A nice pair of jeans (not work jeans, no holes)
  • (Typically pressed) Nice western-style shirt
  • Bolo Tie
  • A damn nice cowboy hat that is just as impressive as those shiny boots.
  • A cool vest is usually appropriate.
  • Nice Western formal jacket.

Usually, men's fancy dress is all the same suit. This is one of those rare times that men get to think about what to wear.

I'm sure the ladies want in on this conversation.

As usual, when it comes to dressing up women have more options than men.

The ladies get to show a little more FLAIR!

The same ideas hold for boots, shirts, pants, and hats, but let's spice them up a bit to look a bit more sexy.

This runway fashion video will give you an idea of what we are talking about.

You might be thinking that all of this is going to be expensive.

It can be, but it doesn't have to be.

Part of the fun of living out West is the availability of affordable yet sharp-looking ideas.

Older, or "vintage" clothing can be just as impressive as brand new.
