Why Do So Many People Go Missing In Wyoming?

The state of Wyoming is home to a population of just shy of 600,000 people, making it the least populated state in America.

Despite this, as a state, it ranks seventh place in terms of the highest missing persons rate per 100,000 people, sitting at 7.77. To put that into perspective,

Texas has a population consisting of almost 30 million people, but Wyoming’s missing person rate (per 100,000) is almost double that despite only having 2% of the population.

That warrants a whole conversation in and of itself, but let’s explore some of the more unusual cases that have occurred in this state.

These cases have never been solved.

In most of these cases, it's easy to see how somebody could vanish in Wyoming.

Nature can swallow up a body in many different ways.

Animals will consume a body.

Rivers will take it apart and run it many miles away.

Landslides and flash floods cover people, nature's way of burring them.

Wyoming is BIG, as states go.

Wyoming is the tenth largest state in the United States in total area, containing 97,814 square miles (253,340 km2) and is made up of 23 counties.

So much land. So few people.

The landscape is rugged.

If a person gets turned around in some parts of this state authorities will have no idea where to even begin to search.

There have been skeletons found in the sagebrush of the prairies and deserts of Wyoming. Nobody has any idea whose body was found.

Don't get lost in Wyoming.
