The Cheyenne Family YMCA has anounced the closure of it's pool, sauna and hot tub due to the cost of maintaining those amenities.

The indefinite closure due to the cost of maintenance and repair will take effect on August 24.

Long Term Solutions Being Sought

In a Friday email, CEO Chris Coker wrote: The pool has suffered multiple high-cost mechanical- and facility-related issues, and we are currently unable to absorb the cost of making these major repairs. In the spirit of safety, we must close the pool. We are now looking for long-term solutions, including capital donations as well as community and government support, to help us restore the pool.

Of the closure, Coker wrote " we are truly heartbroken," noting that the acquatics, including swimming lessons, recreational swimming and water fitness classes have been offered by the Y for decades.

Coker says members who have paid for acquatics programs will have their money refunded without having to take any action.
