One person is dead following a shooting in northwest Cheyenne, police say.

According to a department Facebook post, the shooting happened sometime before 9:18 p.m. Wednesday in the 600 block of Ridgeland Street.

"Due to the nature of the call there is a heavy law enforcement presence in the area," the post reads. "This is an active and evolving scene. Please avoid the area."

Police say updates will be provided as information becomes available.

9:52 P.M. UPDATE:

Police say officers are still on scene investigating and have contacted several persons of interest.

They're asking that the public please continue to avoid the area.

Police say officers have contacted several persons of interest and believe this to be an isolated incident, with no threat to the public.

They say officers are remaining in the area as the investigation is ongoing, and people can expect a police presence throughout the evening.
