UPDATE: Cheyenne Man Arrested Following ‘Disturbance’ on Railroad Bridge
UPDATE:
A 47-year-old Cheyenne man is behind bars following a disturbance on the Union Pacific Railroad bridge on West Lincolnway, police say.
Public Information Officer Alex Farkas says officers were called to the scene around 8:45 a.m. Friday after Ronald Stringer climbed to the top of the bridge and began throwing rocks at vehicles.
Multi-Agency Response
"The incident prompted a multi-agency response, with assistance from the Cheyenne Police/Laramie County Crisis Negotiation Team, Cheyenne Fire Rescue, the Cheyenne Regional Medical Center Co-Responder Team, Union Pacific Railroad, and American Medical Response," Farkas said in a news release.
Farkas says police negotiators and co-responders attempted to speak with Stringer from the ground, and to improve communication, police officers and firefighters were later lifted to the top of the bridge in a bucket truck.
5 Hours of Negotiation
"Stringer was asked to come down multiple times but refused," said Farkas.
"After (more than five) hours of negotiation, Stringer climbed down from the bridge," she added.
Stringer was arrested and booked into the Laramie County Detention Center for making terroristic threats, property destruction, criminal entry, and interference with a peace officer.
As of 4:30 p.m. Friday, Stringer had yet to be formally charged.
1:51 P.M. UPDATE:
Police say West Lincolnway is back open.
ORIGINAL STORY:
A portion of West Lincolnway in Cheyenne has been closed due to a disturbance near the West Lincolnway overpass, police say.
"Due to the nature of the call, there is a large first responder presence in the area," police in a Facebook post at 9:17 a.m. on Friday said.
Police say this is an isolated incident and there is no danger to the public.
They say West Lincolnway is closed from Westland Road to Missile Drive, and traffic is being diverted to Missile Drive.
This is a developing story and will be updated as we obtain new information.
