A 30-year-old Cheyenne woman is facing multiple charges after she was reportedly caught shoplifting and taking methamphetamine into jail.

According to a booking sheet, a Laramie County Sheriff's deputy was called to the Walmart at 2032 Dell Range Blvd. at about 2:58 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 24 for a trespassing patron and contacted Danni D. Martinez in a vehicle in the parking lot.

The deputy says Martinez currently has a suspended driver's license and eventually admitted to driving to the store.

A History of Shoplifting

The deputy says Martinez, who has been trespassed from Walmart previously, as she has a history of shoplifting from the store, was walking out of the store when staff caught her with $488.69 of unpaid merchandise.

When the deputy asked Martinez to step out of her vehicle and told her she was under arrest, she reportedly resisted arrest, and another deputy had to help him secure her wrists so she could be handcuffed.

Martinez was then searched and placed in the back of the deputy's patrol vehicle.

The assisting deputy also conducted a hasty search of Martinez's purse, and it and her phone were secured in the deputy's patrol vehicle, as the deputies didn't want any of her items getting stolen.

Deputy: Martinez Denied Having Any Contraband

Martinez was taken to the Laramie County Detention Center without issue, where she was searched and reportedly denied having any contraband.

However, during a more thorough search of her purse, a small jar with a lid containing a crystalline substance similar in appearance to methamphetamine was reportedly discovered in a small pocket of the purse.

When questioned, Martinez reportedly denied having any knowledge of the jar.

A glass pipe was also reportedly found in the purse with what appeared to be burnt marijuana in it.

Martinez was subsequently charged with taking a controlled substance into jail, a felony punishable by up to three years in prison, up to a $3,000 fine, or both.

She was also charged with three misdemeanors, including theft, interference with a peace officer - no injury, and possession of a controlled substance in powder or crystalline form.

Bond Set at $3K Cash

Martinez made her initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Tuesday, Aug. 27, during which her bond was set at $3,000 cash and her preliminary hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 4 at 3 p.m.

Please remember that all suspects are presumed to be innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
