Cheyenne Man Accused of Pulling Gun on His Mother
A 40-year-old Cheyenne man is facing a felony charge after allegedly pulling a gun on his mother.
According to a booking sheet, police were called to 401 E. 7th St. at 9:37 p.m. on July 25, 2024, for a report of a domestic with a firearm.
Police say the back door was open when they arrived on the scene, but no one was inside the home.
Mother-Son Argument Leads to Felony Arrest
Police contacted the reporting party and victim, who reportedly told them that she and her son, later identified as James Joseph Wertz, had gotten into an argument, during which he pulled a silver handgun and pointed it at her.
Wertz then reportedly ran from the home.
Wertz was reportedly arrested at 10:50 p.m. after police driving around the area spotted him at the intersection of House Avenue and East 6th Street.
Cheyenne Man Charged With Aggravated Assault
Wertz was taken to the Laramie County Detention Center, where he was booked without further incident, and subsequently charged with aggravated assault and battery - threatens to use a drawn deadly weapon, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Wertz made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on July 26, 2024, during which his bond was set at $7,500 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 2, 2024, at 9:45 a.m.
