Cheyenne Man Accused of Attacking Male With Pocket Knife
A 41-year-old Cheyenne man is facing a felony charge after allegedly attacking a male with a pocket knife.
According to a booking sheet, police were called to the Sinclair at 820 W. Lincolnway around 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 12 regarding a stabbing.
Police say the manager told them a male came into the store and said he was stabbed, but not to call the police.
The manager then reportedly provided first aid to the victim and he left.
Drug-Related Attack
The victim was located near the bathrooms at Martin Luther King Jr. Park and reportedly told police that he was in an alley south of 1721 Ames Ave. when Tracy Clavis approached him and asked him about drugs.
The victim said when he told Clavis he did not have any drugs, Clavis produced a pocket knife and attacked him with it.
The victim said he was able to get away after the attack.
Police say the victim had a horizontal gash near his lower right chest area, indicative of being slashed.
Clavis was later located at the Sinclair at 3306 W. College Dr., placed into custody, and Mirandized.
Police say Clavis' story changed throughout the interview, but they were finally able to determine that he was at the incident with the victim, and had admitted to producing a knife after the victim attacked him first with a belt buckle.
Police say Clavis said he had produced the knife but never attacked the victim with it, and said the victim must have cut himself with it during the altercation by closing the distance on him.
Police say Clavis did have a small cut on his right hand which he said came from the belt buckle.
Clavis also reportedly had a small knife on him.
Clavis Charged With Aggravated Assault
Clavis was booked into the Laramie County Detention Center and subsequently charged with aggravated assault and battery with a deadly weapon, a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.
Clavis made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Friday, Sept. 13, during which his bond was set at $5,000 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Friday, Sept. 20 at 9:45 a.m.
