A 32-year-old Cheyenne transient is facing a felony charge after police say they caught him behind the wheel of a stolen vehicle.

According to a booking sheet, police stopped Tony Curtis Brown at the intersection of East 3rd Street and Pebrican Avenue at about 11:41 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 3 for having no visible registration displayed.

Traffic Stop Leads to Felony Theft Charge

Police say when they ran the vehicle identification number (VIN), the vehicle returned as stolen out of Cheyenne.

Police say Brown, who initially identified himself as Anthony Spigner, admitted he knew the vehicle was stolen.

Brown was handcuffed and taken to the Laramie County Detention Center without incident, and subsequently charged with felony theft, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both.

He was also charged with interference with a peace officer - no injury, a misdemeanor.

Bond Set at $3K Cash

Brown made his initial appearance in Laramie County Circuit Court on Tuesday, Oct. 8, during which his bond was set at $3,000 cash and his preliminary hearing was scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 16 at 3:30 p.m.
