70-Year-Old Cheyenne Man Dead After Crashing Into Trees, Fences

A medical condition may be to blame for a crash that left a 70-year-old Cheyenne man dead.

The crash happened around 1:10 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 at the intersection of Ridge Road and Rock Springs Street in northeast Cheyenne.

According to a fatality crash summary from the Wyoming Highway Patrol, William Wilson was behind the wheel of a northbound Toyota Camry, when he went off Ridge Road to the right and struck a large tree and fence.

"The vehicle continued across Rock Springs Street and entered another yard, where it struck another tree and fence," the summary reads.

Wilson was reportedly wearing his seat belt but didn't survive the crash.

According to his obituary (see below), Wilson worked on pipelines in Evanston, worked construction, and was a janitor at the Laramie County Sheriff’s Office.

"Bill enjoyed his photography, fishing, horse races, and computers," his obituary reads.

Wilson is the 13th reported person to die on Laramie County's roadways this year.

He is survived by father, William Gene Wilson; sisters, Ardis Wilson, Debbie Snyder (Gary) and Gloria Merrill; 5 nephews, Robert Snyder, Gary Wayne Snyder (Khory), Chris Wilson (Kaili), Chauncy Merrill (Gina), Kolt Merrill; and 2 nieces, Tonnie Curby (Wesley), and Korie Merrill.
Bill was preceded in death by his mother, Colleen Wilson; and his wife, Wendy Marquis.
Private services will be held at a later date.
