2 Killed, 1 Injured in Separate Motorcycle Crashes in Wyoming

Two people were killed and one injured in separate motorcycle crashes in Wyoming last week, the Wyoming Highway Patrol says.

The first crash happened around 12:05 p.m. on Friday, June 14 at milepost 46.5 on U.S. 16 east of Ten Sleep.

According to a fatality crash summary, the motorcycle was navigating a sharp left-hand curve when it drifted off the highway and lost traction.

"The motorcycle skidded with the right-hand side leading and slid on the left-hand side before tripping," the summary reads.

The motorcycle then reportedly flipped onto the right-hand side, throwing the passenger, 51-year-old Utah resident Dawn Johancsik, from the motorcycle.

Johancsik was wearing a helmet but died from her injuries.

The driver was also reportedly injured in the crash, but the summary did not say to what extent.

21-Year-Old Wyomingite Dead After Crashing Motorcycle Near Evanston

The second crash happened around 4:47 p.m. on Saturday, June 15 at milepost 2.4 on Interstate 80 Service Road near Evanston.

According to a fatality crash summary, 21-year-old Wyoming resident Zachary Worthing was riding east and was attempting to negotiate a left-hand curve at a high rate of speed when he went off the right-hand side of the road and crashed.

Worthing, who was wearing a helmet, was thrown from the motorcycle and died from his injuries.

Both summaries list speed as a possible contributing factor.

Johancsik and Worthing are the fifth and sixth reported motorcyclists and the 34th and 35th reported people to die on Wyoming's highways so far this year.
