Coloradan Accused of Stealing Firearm in Laramie County
A 47-year-old Fort Lupton, Colorado man is facing a felony charge in Laramie County after allegedly stealing a firearm.
Felony Warrant
According to a booking sheet, on Thursday, Sept. 18, Ramon Isabel Ramirez was brought into the Laramie County Detention Center on a warrant for felony theft, a crime punishable by up to 10 years in prison, up to a $10,000 fine, or both.
The theft is alleged to have occurred on March 23 in Laramie County.
Initial Court Appearance
The following afternoon, Sept. 19, Ramirez was seen in Laramie County Circuit Court in front of Judge Sean C. Chambers on the charge.
Chamers set Ramirez's preliminary hearing for Monday, Sept. 29, at 11:30 a.m.
He then heard from the state and Ramirez's attorney regarding bond.
Extensive Criminal History
"Mr. Ramirez has an extensive criminal history involving a multitude of traffic offenses stemming from no license, no insurance charges, as well as a lot of DUIs, giving the state concerns for his ability to comply with bond conditions and court orders," the state said.
"The state also has concerns for the safety of the community considering the fact in the PC affidavit it is stated that he stole a firearm," the state added. "Therefore, the state would recommend a $2,000 cash bond."

Ramirez's attorney said there was no arguing his client's criminal history, however, Ramirez had completed probation on two felony convictions from 2015 and 2018 "without a hiccup."
"When it comes to obeying court orders or the like, he's proven time and time again he would follow those," he said. "Moreover, he does live and reside in Colorado with his mother for the past 17 years, he's not going anywhere."
"I would request a $2,000 cash or surety bond," he added. "He's already retained me. He already has a significant financial stake in returning and dealing with these matters."
Out on Bond
Chambers set Ramirez's bond at $2,000 cash or surety, which he later posted.
Please remember that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
