The Stencil Group will be building a new apartment complex in downtown Cheyenne.

That's according to a post on the Cheyenne Downtown Development Authority Facebook page.

According to the post, the apartment building will be located at the corner of O'Neill and 19th and will be a five-story "market rate" apartment complex. An email to the Stencil Group earlier this week asking for specifics on the project, such as expected rental rates, was not answered.

Who Is Stencil Group?

Stencil Group is headquartered in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. According to it's website, Stencil Group is a vertically-integrated construction, property management & development family of companies. We are creating multi-family housing communities across Minnesota and South Dakota. We heavily emphasize market rate and affordable housing, because we believe that quality, community-focused construction projects are worth it.

A Stencil Group web page on the project says it will include 76 units with completion date of the summer of 2026.

DDA Says The Apartments Will Boost The Economy Of Downtown Cheyenne

The DDA post says the complex will be known as The West End Flats. The post says the apartments will ''not only make use of a previously underutilized lot but also drive more foot traffic and boost spending in our downtown area.''

Affordable housing has been an issue in the Cheyenne/Laramie County area for many years. People working in the community sometimes end up living in Fort Collins or Laramie and commuting to work. Affordable rental housing is in particularly short supply.

The lack of housing in turn presents challenges in drawing new businesses to Cheyenne.
