The first wave of a winter storm forecast for SE Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle is expected to hit the region today.

That's according to the Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service.

The good news for Cheyenne and Laramie is that a Winter Storm Watch posted for both communities has now been downgraded to a Winter Weather Advisory. But both could still see over six inches of snow over the next couple of days.

The agency posted the following on its Facebook page:

''The remaining Winter Storm Watches for Laramie County and southwest Platte County have been replaced with Winter Weather Advisories. Snowfall probabilities across the area have also been updated to reflect model trends showing less snowfall outside the high terrain. The first wave of this storm is expected during the daytime hours today with scattered showers expected across southeast Wyoming and western Nebraska. Snow showers are primarily expected west of the Laramie Range, a rain/snow mix along the Interstate 25 corridor, and rain showers in western Nebraska. The better part of the event is expected Wednesday evening into Thursday night as this is the best window for snow accumulations, mainly along the Interstate 25 corridor and points westward. Snow will taper off by Friday morning.''

Wyoming Black History in Pictures

Some of these pictures are part of a collection of photographs and negatives created and used by the Casper Star Tribune from 1967 until the middle of 1995 according to a newspaper article on the donation from February of 2000. In the words of Special Collections Curator, Kevin Anderson, the photographs serve to document "events in our own lives, events in our own history." Others come from a collection of photographs of people who lived in Casper's Sand Bar as found in the Walter R. Jones Papers available in and through the repository. Many others came from the Casper College Western History Center and the Wyoming State Archives from a wide-variety of original sources.
