August was a wet, warm month across southeast Wyoming and the Nebraska Panhandle, according to the Cheyenne Office of the National Weather Service.

Cheyenne had it's eighth-wettest August on record, while Laramie had its second wettest. Laramie also had its second warmest August on record.

The agency posted the following on its website:

Here's a look back at August weather for the region! After a bone dry spring and early summer for our area, August finally broke the streak, at least for parts of the area. All climate sites except Rawlins and Alliance had above average rainfall in August, with top 10 wettest Augusts recorded at Laramie and Cheyenne! Cheyenne received about the same amount of rainfall in August as all of April through July combined! Temperatures overall were slightly above average. A top 10 warmest month was observed at Laramie. The month started off with a significant heat wave, but the cooler and wetter weather mid month prevented record heat for the month as a whole. Severe weather was also quite active, at least for August when things usually start to quiet down in this area. NWS Cheyenne issued a total of 52 Severe Thunderstorm Warnings last month, which was the 3rd most on record for August (after 2019 and 1996).
