Deputies with the Laramie County Sheriff's Office are being credited for saving the life of an inmate who was suffering from a drug overdose.

It happened on the evening of Saturday, Feb. 18, after the hospital cleared the man for booking.

Sheriff Brian Kozak, who pulled the video and shared it in the department's From the Pod "Pod"Cast Tuesday afternoon, said a deputy was trying to make the inmate comfortable while he was detoxing and was doing checks on him when she noticed he was having a hard time breathing and summoned help.

"She administered Narcan to the patient and then the team came running in bringing in the medical equipment," Kozak said in the "Pod"Cast.

"It looks like they gave him three doses of Narcan to actually save his life," Kozak added.

Kozak says the inmate was stabilized by the time emergency responders from Cheyenne Fire Rescue and American Medical Response arrived on the scene.

He says the inmate later told him, "Your deputies did a really good job saving my life. If I would have been in another jail I probably would have died."
