Jim Carrey Would Do ‘Ace Ventura 3’ If Christopher Nolan Directed It
Jim Carrey has already made it clear he is getting ready to retire from movie acting. In a recent interview promoting his latest (and possibly last) performance in Sonic the Hedgehog 2, Carrey said “if the angels bring some sort of script that’s written in gold ink that says to me that it’s going to be really important for people to see, I might continue down the road, but I’m taking a break.”
His latest comments, then, seem very much in that same vein. Speaking this time we E! News, Carrey was asked whether he would ever revisit some of his classic roles like The Cable Guy in a new movie. He was skeptical — but said he would consider a project like that if the right director was involved. Like, say, The Dark Knight and Tenet’s Christopher Nolan.
Carrey explained...
I think after the fact when there’s been a lot of years, unless some genius person, director, auteur comes to you with a completely new take on what’s going on, you know. If Chris Nolan came to me and said, ‘I want to make Ace Ventura real and I want to do something, you know, something more interesting…’ then I might listen. But for the most part, you know, after a certain time there’s not one cell in your body that is that person anymore so you end up just imitating what you did in the old days and the original inspiration isn’t there.
Okay, so the odds of Christopher Nolan, who is currently working on a film about J. Robert Oppenheimer, the man who invented the nuclear bomb, approaching Jim Carrey about Ace Ventura 3, the adventures of a wacky pet detective, are extremely slim. That said, Nolan is a fan of silly comedies. He supposedly loves MacGruber so much that the creators of the recent TV show approached him about directing an episode. Now, yes, he did turn them down. But what if he loves Ace Ventura even more than MacGruber? In the immortal words of another famous Jim Carrey character, “So you’re telling me there’s a chance!”
Sonic the Hedgehog 2 opens in theaters this Friday. You can watch Carrey’s interview with E! News below.
