"Come early," that's the advice Cheyenne Frontier Days Military Chairman Col. Brian Rico is giving to those planning on watching the Thunderbirds Air Show at F.E. Warren Air Force Base Wednesday.

Entrance to the base and free parking will be available from 6 to 9 a.m., but Rico says they may not be able to get those who show up between 8 and 9 a.m. bused to the viewing area in time for the 10 a.m. show.

"We're going to be bringing people in through Gate 1," he said.  "We've got the ability to accommodate about 2,500 cars, (which) equates to approximately 10,000 people, but we may only get 6,000 people up there due to the small time frame we have of busing folks up."

"It's been a long time (since we've hosted the Thunderbirds and we don't know how people are going to react," he added.  "We don't know if everybody wants to come on base (or) if people are going to watch it from outside the base because the viewing area is much different this year."

If you're planning to watch the show at F.E. Warren you'll need to drive onto the base, there's no park-and-ride.  Access will require a valid government or state-issued ID.

You'll also want to be sure to check out the prohibited and permitted items listed below.

F.E. Warren will have concessions, a bouncy house for the kids and static displays for viewing.

"If you're not on base, we're going to be flying a very steep northeast to southwest angle through the base," said Rico.

"There's a large housing development just to the east of the base, Roundtop Road to the west and Horse Creek Road to the north," he added.  "I would also venture to say that you could probably even see it from Frontier Park."

Regardless of where you watch the Thunderbirds from, you'll want to keep an eye on the weather.  The show was delayed last year and canceled in 2017 because of a low cloud ceiling.
