The Laramie County Sheriff's Office is warning Black Hills Energy customers about a phone scam making the rounds.

According to reports, someone claiming to be with the utility is calling people telling them that their payment hasn't been received.

The caller then asks the customer to use their credit card to make the payment over the phone and threatens to turn their power off if they refuse.

The sheriff's office urges anyone who receives a call like this to hang up and call Black Hills Energy. They can confirm the legitimacy of the claim as well as bill payments.
