Liv Roberts Selected MW Player of the Week Again
Wyoming junior guard Liv Roberts has been chosen the Mountain West Women’s Basketball Player of the Week for the fourth time this season.
Roberts led the Cowgirls to a pair of victories last week, 89-60 over San Jose State and 68-52 over New Mexico. She averaged 16.5 points and 14 rebounds per game. Roberts shot nearly 42 percent from the field and went 10-10 at the foul line. She added six assists and four steals in the wins.
Wyoming head coach Joe Legerski said Roberts has stepped her game up to a different level.
“She’s playing with so much confidence, but she’s also playing with a tremendous amount of energy. To be able to average a double-double through conference play, you have to want to go get rebounds. They just don’t find you, and I think that’s what she does… Everything she receives is very well deserved. She’s the hardest worker in practice, and it's translating to what happens on the floor.”
Roberts became the first Cowgirl to receive the weekly honor four times in the same season since Hillary Carlson during the 2010-11 season.
The announcement came Monday from the league office.
Roberts is averaging 18.3 points and 10.1 rebounds per game in conference play. She is shooting 52.3 percent from the field and 55.6 percent from 3-point range during MW action. Both rank Roberts in the top four of the conference. All this while playing 33.4 minutes per game.
Roberts also won the weekly honor Dec. 5 and Dec. 26, 2016, plus Jan. 9, 2017.
The Wyoming Cowgirls are off to their best start to conference play in school history thanks in part to the efforts of Roberts. They are 15-3 on the season and lead the Mountain West at 7-0. UW returns to action Wednesday at UNLV. Game time is 7 p.m. Saturday the Cowgirls will play at Boise State at 1 p.m.
