Fast starts by both Montana teams on Saturday night led to a pair of victories and the series sweep of Wyoming again.

The Montana girls led 11-0 early and rolled to a 71-39 victory. The same happened in the boys’ game, as the Treasure State jumped out to an early 21-3 lead and cruised to a 110-71 win.

Montana extended their winning streaks in both series. They’ve won nine straight girls’ games and lead that series 35-13. Montana has won 18 consecutive games in the boys’ series and increased their all-time advantage to 63-27.

Girls

The Wyoming girls struggled from the start. They failed to score until four minutes had gone by. Montana held the Cowboy State to just two points in the second quarter. It was 28-11 at halftime. A 22-6 run to start the second half by Montana put the game away.

Allyson Fertig led Wyoming with 11 points. Kamdynn Townsend added eight.

Lindsey Hein scored a game-high 14 points for Montana. Gracee Lekvold added 13 points, Isabelle Erickson 12, and Hailee Brandon chipped in 10.

Boys

Five Montana players scored in double figures, as the Treasure State rolled past the Cowboy State again.

Montana made 17 3-pointers in their victory. Ky Kouba scored a game-high 23 points. Alex Germer scored 22 points, while Malachi Stewart added 19. Tony Frohlich-Fair contributed 18. Levi Torgerson had 10 points.

After the 21-3 start by Montana, the Treasure State pushed it to 31 points by halftime.

Bryan St. Clair paced Wyoming with 16 points. Rudy Sanford added 13 points, 11 of which came in the fourth quarter. Mack Page finished with 12 points.

Wyoming made only six triples in the contest compared to 17 the night before.
