A headlining slot at Coachella is a major victory lap for an artist, but Radiohead's set last night turned disastrous. The band had to leave the stage twice during its performance due to problems with the sound.

As NME reports, they were playing "Ful Stop," the third song of the evening, when the audience was hit with a rush of feedback, followed by the loss of sound from the stage's speakers cut out. After the song, frontman Thom Yorke briefly left the stage to find out what was going on, and he quipped, "F---ing aliens again," upon returning.

The problem seemed to be resolved during "Airbag," but the audio dropped out again during "15 Step," after which the band left the stage and, as Pitchfork notes, the stage went dark. They returned four minutes later, but there were minor issues with "The National Anthem" and another complete dropout during "Let Down," resulting in another unwanted departure from the stage.

“Can you actually hear me now?" Yorke said when they came back. "I’d love to tell you a joke to lighten the mood. But this is Radiohead, so f--- it!”

The rest of the concert proceeded without further problems, and -- perhaps as a goodwill gesture to the fans who waited out the delay -- they closed the main set with the rarely performed "Creep," with Yorke introducing it by saying "Oh you know, a funny thing happened on the way to the festival tonight. ... Oh no, it didn't."
