Snow, Poor Visibility Forecast For Cheyenne/Laramie Area

• Moderate confidence for significant travel impacts will be along I-80 from Cheyenne to Laramie, including the summit and possibly Arlington. Moderate to heavy snowfall and gusty east-northeast winds may reduce visibility below one half mile Thursday night & continue through Saturday morning.

• Precipitation will start as rain along with a few thunderstorms on Thursday evening with temperatures lowering Thursday night. Rain will gradually mix with and change to snow down to around 6000 feet by Friday morning.  Snow levels may continue to drop around 5000 feet on Friday.  This could result in light to moderate snowfall accumulations especially in elevations above 5000ft, which will be highly dependent on snowfall rates and temperatures. This includes the locations of Cheyenne, Rawlins, Laramie, and the mountains.  At this point, the mountains will receive the highest amounts with values ranging 6 to 10 inches. Elsewhere, amounts will generally be less, except for the I-80 summit.

• Mostly rain below 5000 feet, including Torrington and Wheatland.

What this means for western Nebraska:

• Mostly rain is expected for western Nebraska.  Rain will mix with/change to snow down to around 5000 feet. So the higher elevations of Kimball and Banner counties may see some light snow accumulations on Friday into Friday night."
