The town of Kemmerer is the coldest place in Wyoming, according to a list ranking the warmest and coldest cities in every state.

Home to the first J.C. Penney store, the Lincoln County seat has a new claim to fame, with an average year-round low temperature of 22 degrees, the coldest in the Cowboy State. With an elevation just under 7,000 feet above sea level, Kemmerer's high desert climate is characterized by long, cold winters and short, cool summers.

226 miles northeast of Kemmerer lies the warmest town in Wyoming, Thermopolis. Named after the Greek word for "hot city", the city is home to the largest mineral hot spring in the world and boasts an average year-round high temperature of 66.

One of Colorado's warmest cities is just 50 miles south of Cheyenne, according to the list. Greeley tied with Pueblo for the highest average temperature in the state, at 69 degrees. Just beyond Wyoming's northwest border is the coldest town in Montana, West Yellowstone, with an average year-round low temperature of 20 degrees.
