What should have been a fairly straightforward trip to Australia has unraveled into controversy and social media finger-pointing between Megadeth and the promoter of the Soundwave Festival, with the band's Australian fans caught in the middle.

If you've been struggling over who to support in the rumored Megadeth/Jason Newsted feud, take it easy. According to a rep for Megadeth, the rumors surrounding Newsted's recent exit from the Megadeth tour aren't true.

Given that they are both former members of Metallica, one would think Dave Mustaine and Jason Newsted would get along famously. However, that appears not to be the case, as we learn that Newsted's self-titled band has been thrown off an Australian tour by headliners Megadeth.

Gigantour 2013 is now in the books, and during the final show last night (Aug. 11) in Toronto, Dave Mustaine and Jason Newsted jammed the Metallica classic 'Phantom Lord' during Megadeth's set (watch fan-shot video above).

Here's some news that may or may not surprise you. Since Megadeth's released 'Super Collider,' two months ago, album sales have been somewhat disappointing. In fact, 'Super Collider' was outsold this week by Metallica's 'Black Album,' which is 22 years old.

Megadeth's new 'Super Collider' album found the band recording outside material for the first time since 1988. And they chose wisely, reaching into Thin Lizzy's vaults to cover the band's classic 'Cold Sweat.'

Given that he founded Megadeth, it would seem safe to assume that death has never exactly been far from Dave Mustaine's mind. But lately, it seems as though he's been even more focused on mortality -- specifically his own.

Oklahoma City was plagued with bad luck last night (July 16) as Megadeth's Gigantour 2013 was severely affected by extreme weather issues. Intense rain and lightning forced Device to skip their set, but that wasn't even the tip of the iceberg. Shortly before Megadeth were set to take the stage, a bolt of lightning struck an Oklahoma City transformer, cutting power to the Zoo Amphitheatre entirely.
