Cheyenne police are warning about a phone scam involving callers posing as law enforcement officers asking for money.

Cheyenne police are warning residents not to fall for a phone scam that attempts to raise money for law enforcement agencies.

The texts have disturbing imagery and should be blocked if received.

In another version, the caller pretends to be a law enforcement officer calling to report that a child or grandchild has been involved in a crash.

The FBI Denver Division says that it has seen its main number spoofed in this manner recently, as well as the numbers of its offices in Colorado and Wyoming.

The person is told they will be arrested unless immediate payment is made either via a cashier's check or a Green Dot debit card.

If you get a call from someone asking you to donate to the Cheyenne Police Department, just hang up.

The scammer asks the victim to purchase multiple Green Dot or Steam cards and to give them the numbers as bond payment.

Beck says the patrol hasn't, and won't request any payment over the phone.

Some of the calls spoof the IRS toll-free number to appear to be legitimate.
