Wyoming congresswoman Harriet Hageman on Tuesday voted against removing Kevin McCarthy as speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. After the vote, she issued the following statement: "There are far too many pressing concerns facing this nation for Congress to be pulled into such a selfserving stunt as one member is selfishly trying to torpedo the business of the House...

"It's clear Rep. McCarthy is willing to sell nearly anything to retain power..."

Gordon beat Democrat Theresa Livingston, a retired educator and U.S. Bureau of Land Management employee. Neither campaigned extensively.

In Laramie County, candidates for city council, county commission, sheriff, school board, and a number of other local offices are on the ballot, although some candidates are running unopposed.

City council races are non-partisan under Wyoming law, meaning candidates do not formally affiliate with either party.

Wyoming Secretary of State Ed Buchanan announced Tuesday that he will not seek reelection.
