These towns are not for everyone, but that's the point.

The best small towns can offer friendly neighbors, safe streets, and excellent schools along with cultural and recreational activities—and, of course, quieter alternatives to nearby bustling cities.

In 2016, just 19 percent of rural residents held college degrees, as opposed to 33 percent in urban areas.

Small towns are a big part of Wyoming's heritage, many of which got their start as stops for stagecoaches or for the pony express.

In the Cowboy State, a community of over 1,000 people is a metropolis. There are dozens of choices for coolest small towns, but we tried out best to list our five favorites, let us know if you agree or disagree!
