The Tiny Town of Albany Is The Coldest Place In Wyoming Today

Nobody in the Cowboy State was colder today than the 55 residents of Albany, Wyoming. The tiny, unincorporated town in the Medicine Bow National Forest dropped to -26 early this morning, according to the National Weather Service.

Albany was one of six Wyoming towns where the mercury fell more than 20 degrees below zero. Riverside recorded a low of -23, Saratoga plummeted to -22, Elk Mountain plunged to -21, Rawlins reported -20, and Laramie dove to -20. Other frigid Wyoming towns include Medicine Bow, Centennial, Hanna, and Sinclair, who each hit -18. Wind chills in many areas dropped under -30.

Luckily, Albany, Wyo. wasn't colder than Peter Sinks, Utah. The mountain town near the Idaho-Utah border just set another record for the coldest temperature ever recorded in the United States during the month of October at -46, breaking yesterday's record of -35. The coldest October day on record in Wyoming was October 29, 1917, when the Soda Butte weather station in Yellowstone National Park fell to -33.

The town of Bondurant is typically considered the coldest place in Wyoming, with an average high temperature of just over 10 degrees from December through February. Bondurant was balmy by comparison this week, falling to only -1 this morning.
