‘Tinsel Through Time’ Brings Historical Holiday Magic to Cheyenne

The Tinsel Through Time holiday experience at the Historic Governor's Mansion is a treasured tradition in my house. Ever since I was a young child, I can remember roaming the garland-bedecked halls of the mansion, ooo-ing and ahh-ing over the shimmering ornaments and glittering decorations.

The Historic Governor's Mansion preserves the stories of Wyoming Governors and their families between 1905 and 1976. The annual Christmas celebration at the mansion takes visitors through the cheer and splendor of holidays long past, with themed decorations (some dating all the way back to 1905!), live music, and festive treats. This year's celebration theme is 'Holly Jolly Christmas.'

Tinsel Through Time: Dates and Hours

Tinsel Through Time kicks off on November 25, 2023, from 1 to 4 p.m. at 300 E. 21st Street. The event is free and open to the public and will run from November 25 until December 23 during the mansion's normal visiting hours. Find more info on hours and location here.

Tinsel Through Time is a self-guided experience. Bring the whole family to explore the beautiful decorations of bygone eras. Staff at the mansion stand ready to answer your questions about the historic home and the Christmas traditions once held there.

5 Tips for Visitors to Tinsel Through Time (From Someone Who Goes Every Year)

Make the most of your Tinsel Through Time experience by following these tips:

1. Set aside about an hour for your visit. This gives you time to explore, enjoy music, and sample treats while there.

2. Prep for stairs. Little ones may need a helping hand up the steep and narrow steps of the mansion.

3. Take photos! There are lots of opportunities for family photos next to historically-decorated Christmas trees.

4. Ask questions. Volunteers at the mansion love explaining decorations and the stories behind each room in the home.

5. Be respectful. The Historic Governor's Mansion is a museum - as such, remember that the decorations are exhibit items - look, enjoy, but don't touch.
