When a budget crisis caused the state of Wyoming to cut funding for the state's suicide prevention program, those at the suicide crisis center jumped into action to find a way to keep the program going.

In her last few weeks on the job, Dr. Humphries-Wadsworth was frantically trying to keep services up and running for a state that is fourth out of 50 in suicides.

The individuals involved with Walk Across Wyoming to raise awareness were first greeted with, "Are you nuts?" But then, later, the community gave their support.

Dr. Terresa Humphries-Wadsworth and her best friend Kelly Eckerdt decided to walk more than 400 miles in 15 days from the Wyoming Veterans Memorial Park in Cody to the Cheyenne VA Medical Center starting Sept. 1, 2017.

Kelly was not able to finish training after her doctor told her to stop and advised her to go in for surgery on a tendon. But she stayed by her friends side through the journey.

Governor Mead issued a proclamation declaring September 2017 as suicide prevention awareness month in Wyoming.
