LARAMIE -- Jaylen Pate is looking for a new home.

Wyoming's sophomore defensive end entered the NCAA Transfer Portal Wednesday, becoming the 11th Cowboy football player to leave the program since the Dec. 21 bowl victory in Boise.

Pate still has three seasons of eligibility remaining. He said his intentions are to attend law school. Pate will graduate from UW this spring, making him a graduate transfer, he confirmed.

The 6-foot-2, 247-pound Chicago native appeared in 16 games during his three seasons in Laramie after redshirting during the 2019 season. Pate registered 27 total tackles, broke up a pass and tallied 1.5 sacks, his first coming at UNLV during the pandemic-shortened 2020 campaign.

Pate's best game last fall came against Ball State in Week 3. He finished with four tackles and two fumble recoveries in a 45-12 rout of the defending MAC Champions.

Pate racked up 69 tackles, 11 sacks and 27 tackles for loss to go along with four forced fumbles, three recoveries and a pick six during his senior season at Lane Tech College Prep. The former two-star recruit was named to the Chicago Sun Times All-Public League team in 2018.

He we recruited by Power-5 program Minnesota, as well as Bowling Green, Northern Illinois and Mountain West foe, New Mexico.

Wyoming has now lost a pair of defensive ends to the portal. Victor Jones entered two days after the Cowboys knocked off Kent State 52-38 in the Famous Idaho Potato Bowl. Jones committed to the University of Akron on Jan. 7.

Garrett Crall also exhausted his eligibility, leaving the program with limited experience at the edge. Solomon Byrd is set to return in 2022. The junior finished with 21 tackles and 3.5 sacks last fall. Sophomore DeVonne Harris and junior Teagan Liufau also saw extended playing time last fall.

Sebastian Harsh, a sophomore from Scottsbluff, Neb., was a special teams standout for the Pokes. He registered five tackles in 2021.

Tyce Westland (Fr.), Jack Boyer (Jr.), Micah Young (Fr.), Braden Siders (R-Fr.), Oluwaseyi Omotosho (R-Fr.) and incoming freshman, Kevin Sjogren, are the other defensive ends on the Cowboys official roster.
