Wyoming Lawmakers Want to Spend up to $650,000 on Electronic Voting System for Legislature
A Senate proposal backed by two state legislators would immediately move $650,000 from the state's general fund to the Legislative Service Office to pay for the installation of an electronic voting system in the Wyoming Legislature.
Senate File 168 is sponsored by Sen. Anthony Bouchard (R-Cheyenne) and Rep. Lars O. Lone (R-Cheyenne). The proposal was assigned a bill number on Wednesday.
The voting system described in the measure would include a device at each legislator's desk that would allow electronic voting and vote counting. The system would also include security measures designed to ensure legislators are the only people voting.
Installation would be completed during the rehabilitation and restoration of the Wyoming Capitol Building.
Funding for the system would lapse when the restoration is complete or on June 30, 2021, whichever comes first.
The $650,000 figure would be a maximum amount to be spent on the voting system, not a guaranteed amount.
The funds would be moved as soon as the bill becomes law, should it pass.
