A University of Wyoming Physics and Astronomy Associate Professor has been invited to join a group of specialists who will be designing what will be the most advanced and powerful optical telescope on Earth, according to KGWN.

The Thirty Meter Telescope is a proposed astronomical observatory with an extremely large telescope  Michael Pierce will be working with 4 other scientists on what will be a $25 million dollar instrument that will become a part of a $1.6 Billion project being built by the Thirty Meter Telescope Observatory Corp.

When it’s completed, scientists will be able to view objects and stars throughout the galaxy.

Professor Pierce has also been chosen to head the State Portion of NASA project to view August 2017 Eclipse to “provide a bird’s-eye view and front-row seat to this historic phenomenon.”
